What Is The Hyundai Venue?
The Hyundai Venue is the smallest SUV in Hyundai's fleet. It sits just below the slightly larger Hyundai Kona. A five-passenger, four-door plus hatchback CUV, the Venue features some of the newest technology found on the road today.
Small but peppy is a good way to describe the Hyundai Venue SEL. Powered by a relatively tiny 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine making 121 horsepower and 113 lb-ft of torque, it won't be the fastest pony in the stable but it will still get up and go. That engine delivers its power to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with "tuning," that makes it feel as though it is changing gears as it gains speed.
The Venue's electric power steering, Macpherson strut front suspension, and torsion beam rear axle provide a satisfying road feel on almost any road surface.
How Does It Look?
Square and boxy are two words to describe the Hyundai Venue. But in this case, those are good words! A large, upright windshield and an airy greenhouse provide excellent visibility throughout. It also includes a roofline that can accommodate a couple of ten-gallon hats, or more!
The large grille looks like many other members of the Hyundai family. It looks like many of the clan will be adopting the waterfall-style look seen on vehicles like the Palisade and the Santa Fe. Only time will tell on this South Korean-designed and built vehicle.
A Turn Inside
The Venue's two-tone interior is well designed with functionality and a bit of whimsy at the same time. From the comfortable front seats, to the leather-wrapped steering wheel, and eight-inch color touchscreen display, the Venue is very well equipped.
All Venue models include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity, which is a good thing because it's on everyone's "must-have" list and introduces navigation and other in-car entertainment options to its owners. Controls are thoughtfully placed, with a center console that includes a storage shelf, gear control lever and drive mode select dial, which allows drivers to change the system according to the terrain they are encountering. Drivers are able to find an optimal seating position, thanks to a tilt and telescoping steering wheel.
The rear cargo area includes 18.7 cubic feet behind the rear seat. Fold it forward and the area grows to 31.9-cubic feet. There is also a false floor shelf that helps you keep valuables out of sight. It's just the thing for those weekend runs for supplies at the local big box store!
Behind The Wheel of the Venue
We found the Hyundai Venue from North Palm Beach Hyundai is a surprisingly agile vehicle that is at home on the city streets as it is on the highway. Power comes on decisively, with some surprisingly quick starts from a standing stop. Even though the transmission is a smooth-shifting CVT, it simulates the sound and feel of running through the gears as it achieves cruising speed on the highway.
During our time in the Hyundai Venue, we were able to achieve mileage ratings of 30 city / 34 highway. We were pleasantly surprised by how quiet the Venue was while cruising along the interstate. Kudos to the Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) engineers at Hyundai for managing to help make drive time in the new Hyundai Venue the best time of your day.
