Honda or Hyundai - which is better?

Hyundai vs. Honda | Design

This is the hardest aspect to judge with an unbiased opinion. We are, after all, a Hyundai dealership. The thing is, if you compare the Honda and Hyundai designs, Hyundai feels like they consistently push the limits more often. Put simply, Hyundai looks to set the trends, and Honda seems to follow them. Compare the new Palisade to the Passport. The Passport is a nice-looking SUV, but it feels like we have seen a dozen or so similar designs recently. The new Palisade offers such a distinct design that it feels like something unprecedented and will be the standard for what is to come. We're not saying that Honda doesn't make nice-looking vehicles. They do. But Hyundai is doing things we haven't seen before and are really making models that make people say, "Wow." Overall you can call us homers for this opinion. That's fair, but we're choosing a Hyundai all the way.

Hyundai vs. Honda | Interior and Technology

With Hyundai and Honda, you can be sure that you will get a well-crafted interior. Both manufacturers offer spacious cabins and a variety of seating options depending on the model. And while Hyundai has more 7- and 8-seat SUVs available, Honda does have the Odyssey minivan, which Hyundai does not have. Hyundai models do tend to be more tech-forward with larger standard infotainment screens and more cutting-edge tech. Honda, however, does a great job with a minimalist interior design that may suit some people better. Overall, we feel that the Hyundai interiors have the edge, but Honda does offer plenty in their interiors as well.

Hyundai vs. Honda | Performance

The winner of which manufacturer offers better performance comes down to how you define overall performance. Honda delivers vehicles that offer a more dynamic experience. While both manufacturers offer sport packages on certain vehicles, Honda tends to be more tuned in to making fast, sporty vehicles. If you compare things like the Civic Type R to the Elantra N-Line, you'll see that both vehicles are plenty fun to drive, but the Civic offers better overall performance. However, looking at the standard models, both brands are pretty much even. Hyundai has the added benefit of offering better gas mileage on most of the models offered. If you need speed and tight handling, Honda might be the better bet, but Hyundai offers a well-rounded experience that is more suitable to your average driver.

Hyundai vs. Honda | Warranty & Cost

If you're buying a new Hyundai or Honda, an underrated question to ask yourself is, "How long do I plan on staying in this vehicle?" If you compare the two, Hyundai's new vehicle pricing tends to be lower across all models and offers equal quality. On top of that, the warranty for Hyundai is significantly better for the powertrain new vehicle warranty. Additionally, Hyundai offers 3 years or 36,000 miles of limited maintenance included. Honda does make up a little for this by having slightly more affordable average maintenance costs as well as a slightly higher resale value. More than likely this will not be enough to justify such a huge upfront difference. In this regard, Hyundai is the clear winner.

  • New Vehicle (Bumper-to-Bumper) Limited Warranty: 5 years / 60,000 miles

  • Roadside Assistance: 5 years / unlimited miles

  • Powertrain Limited Warranty: 5 years / 60,000 miles
  • New Vehicle (Bumper-to-Bumper) Limited Warranty: 3 years / 36,000 miles

Honda or Hyundai Trucks/Vans-which is better?

Honda has a decent advantage if you are in the market for a truck or a van. While Hyundai does make a truck, it comes in the form of an SUV-truck crossover as the Santa Cruz. The Honda Ridgeline is more of a traditional truck with a longer bed length, although you might be surprised by the overall performance of the Santa Cruz. As far as vans go, there is nothing to compare, as Honda makes the Odyssey and Hyundai does not offer a van.

Honda or Hyundai EVs-which is better?

Comparing Hyundai and Honda EV selection is apples to oranges. Honda currently has 1 pure EV and 7 total hybrid or electric vehicles. Compare that to the 4 electric vehicles Hyundai offers with 11 total hybrid or electric models, and you can see which company has been more driven to create vehicles in the EV market. Beyond that, most of the models in these lineups have either been discussed already on this page or are too dissimilar to compare.

So, should you visit a Honda dealership or a Hyundai dealership?

If you compare individually, you can see that both manufacturers make plenty of vehicles worth buying. However, when you boil down the key points, you will find that a new Hyundai model is better suited for most of your day-to-day driving. With most models offering better gas mileage, equal or better passenger space, all at generally lower prices, Hyundai is going to fit the needs of most customers. Now the more important question becomes, which Hyundai model should you buy?
